Brahma Kamal bloomed at my home [Hyderabad]


The Brahma Kamal is the mythical white lotus that has dominated the imagination of mythological experts from generations. It blooms only for one night in the entire year, somewhere between July and September. It is a rare plant that flowers around midnight and survives only for a few hours. It is also commonly known as Nishagandhi in India or ‘Queen of the Night’.
The Brahma Kamal is native to the Himalayas and Uttarakhand, India, Northern Burma and South-West China. In Himalayas, it is found at an altitude of around 4500 m. It is the state flower of Uttarakhand.
